When I heard about this, it just further cemented my belief that Verisign is run by a bunch of unethical lunatics that only care about separating money from your wallet. This is just my personal opinion, however. Advantagecom has no "official" view on the matter.

I was wondering what Verisign was up to several months ago when they took over the root servers. The idea is ok, but a registrar really shouldn't be in charge of something like this, especially Verisign which has a history of being less than ethical.

If any of you care about Verisign stealing all traffic from misspelled or expired domain names by abusing their special authority as root name server maintainers, you *need* to read and sign this petition to ICANN.

Do your part to stop monopolistic abuse activities that could harm the stability and integrity of the Internet.

There are "patches" for almost every DNS server available, but they're optional and not likely to make it into standard distribution.

It looks like that petition was reset. It had 10,000+ signatures when I posted it and now it's down to 178. I'm not sure it will be useful if the petition keeps getting reset.

I just added my signature and the count was around 13,800.

ICANN, bless 'em, has, for once, done the right thing and forced Verisign kill the service.

Excellent, but in my personal opinion, the Internet will not be safe until someone pulls the plug on Verisign altogether. dry.gif
